This memory is placed at home, with references to everyday places, like the school or the store. Yale is a reference to the future.
The first sentence of this piece is one of the reasons why I chose this story for my second paper. A great contrast should be noted between the consideration of her own life as ordinary and her parents assumption of her brilliant future as a student at Yale, like all the generations in the family have done. She is recalling how she and her brother Marc used to be alone at home late in the evening while their parents were still at work, doing whatever they pleased. Unlike their classmates, they didn´t have a TV so they easily convinced their parents to buy one. They ordered one from the electronics store and it came at once. The curious thing is that noboby ever took it out of the box.
